SIGNINGS FOR THE HOMECOMING IN THE NORTH EAST

Jane Purdon, thought leader and CEO of Women in Football, will be at two Waterstones stores in North East cities in June to sign copies of her forthcoming book, The Homecoming: The Lionesses and Beyond.

You can meet Jane and obtain a signed copy at Waterstones Sunderland on Thursday 22 June from 5:30pm and at Waterstones Durham on Saturday 24 June from 11am to 2pm.

The new book is Purdon’s passionate, heartfelt account of the summer of 2022, when the Lionesses dazzled the nation and brought football home.

Jane brings us a vivid and lyrical account of the Lionesses’ 2022 triumph, interweaving the story of that magical summer with her own tale as a woman in football. A Sunderland fan in her 1970s youth, when women were still finding their way back into the game, Jane would defy gender expectations and go on to become the secretary of Sunderland AFC, the director of governance of the Premier League and CEO of Women in Football.

Informed by lessons learned on her extraordinary journey, Jane also reflects on what’s happened to women’s football since the Lionesses’ triumph, and what needs to happen next.

In 1992, Jane wrote in an article for When Saturday Comes: ‘The England women’s team winning the European Championship – now that is not a fairy tale, it could just happen.’ How prescient can you get?
