EVENTS ANNOUNCED FOR NIGHTS IN GOLD SATIN
Pitch Publishing is pleased to announce two special events to mark the release of Nights in Gold Satin, Jake Perry’s new book on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The official launch will take place at the Wolves Museum at Molineux on Thursday 5 September 2025, at 7pm. The evening will celebrate a defining era in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ history and the club’s role in shaping European football.
Nights in Gold Satin tells the story of the famous ‘floodlit friendlies’ of the 1950s, which helped pave the way for the creation of the European Cup. Drawing on contemporary sources and exclusive interviews with former players, Perry offers a vivid portrait of a golden age for Wolves.
Crowned league champions in 1954, the advent of the floodlit age gave Stan Cullis’s Wolves an opportunity to test themselves against some of the best sides in the world. Most celebrated was the visit of Honvéd, a team boasting six of the Hungary players who had humbled England at Wembley the year before. Wolves’ win restored national pride and led some to hail them ‘champions of the world’. Out of the debate that followed, the European Cup was born.
A signing event will also be held at Waterstones Wolverhampton on Saturday, 4 October 2025, ahead of Wolves’ Premier League fixture against Brighton. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the author and pick up a signed copy of the book.
More information on each event will be available in due course via Wolves.co.uk and Waterstones, Wolverhampton.
