Three Authors Nominated at British Sports Book Awards!

Three Pitch Publishing authors have seen their books nominated for awards at the upcoming 2014 British Sports Book Awards; Andy Holgate, Sergio Torres and David Tossell have been shortlisted in the Outstanding Sports Writing, New Writer and Football categories respectively.

Can't Sleep, Can't Train, Can't Stop! continues triathlete Holgate's inspirational journey where Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run left off. It follows his endurance battle against nappies, pirates, udder cream and impalement in two Ironman triathlons just six weeks apart - including the seemingly impossible  challenge of Ironman Lanzarote.

The Sergio Torres Story is a true-life story of an imagined Utopia – of willpower, sacrifice and joy, and of daring to dream. Aged 22, Sergio quit his job in an Argentine brick factory, telling colleagues he was going to be a footballer in Europe. Yeah, right. Three years later, they turned on the TV and there was Sergio starring against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Tossell's Great English Final tells the story of the 1953 FA Cup Final between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers had everything: seven goals, a dramatic comeback and, in Stanley Matthews, a fairytale hero. The match came to represent a post-war golden age; but change was coming in the shape of television, consumerism and a new monarch. And soon football, too, would never be the same again.

The British Sports Book Awards is the major annual promotion for Sports Writing & Publishing, the awards exist to highlight the most outstanding sports books of the previous calendar year, to showcase their merits and to enhance their reputation and profile

The British Sports Book Awards was originally conceived as part of the famous National Sporting Club’s banqueting campaign programme.

These enjoyable lunches and dinners brought the world of sports writing, publishing and entertainment together. It soon became evident that there was room for a major celebration of the best of British sports writing and the British Sports Book Awards were born in 2002.

The trio will join the Pitch Publishing table for the black-tie event at the home of English cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground, on the evening of the 21st May and the awards will also be broadcast for the first time on BT Sport.
