GOT, NOT GOT: A TOON TREASURE TROVE FOR XMAS

GOT, NOT GOT: A TOON TREASURE TROVE FOR XMAS

Newcastle United fans have provided the material for a very special addition to the Got, Not Got football nostalgia series. Packed full of memories and memorabilia, the book is already flying off bookshop shelves up in Geordieland.

“It’s a cracking book,” says Toon supercollector Gavin Haigh, whose amazing treasure trove of Newcastle United shirts and just about every other Toon collectable features in the ultimate Santa’s Grotto of black-and-white paraphernalia. Every Mags fan of a certain age probably once owned everything here – or wishes he had!

“It’s great to be part of it and to see my collection featured so much,” Gavin continues. “The dedication to my Dad meant a lot.”

Gary Silke & Derek Hammond’s book recalls a more innocent era of football, lingering longingly over relics from the good old days – Toon stickers and petrol freebies, league ladders, big-match programmes and much more – revisiting lost football culture, treasures and pleasures that are 100 per cent Newcastle United.

Former Viz Comic editor Chris Donald weighs in with some blurry snaps taken from the terraces at St James’s back in the early 70s – complete with heads in the way and a copper walking in front of the action.

“This is pure NUFC nostalgia, fans will love it,” says Gavin. “I can't recommend this enough!”

Meanwhile, if you’ve got a matchworn Newcastle United shirt gathering dust in the attic, please do get in touch through the Got, Not Got blog, because Gavin’s doing his very best to collect the whole set!
